“We all have a right to live well. Wellbeing is not just a thing we do at night or at the weekend, wellbeing is an active state of being.”
James Hitchen
Which pillars are you building up and which are you neglecting?
EMOTIONAL
A valuable pillar to support since it can help avoid mood swings and emotional outbursts. Most people are less aware of this pillar since they don’t think it needs to be fulfilled.
Coping strategies include:
- Practicing gratitude, either by telling others small things you’re grateful for or writing them down
- Breathing exercises
- Coping thoughts, such as “This is tough but so am I”, “Everything will get better sooner or later”, or “I am always important, no matter what”.

SPIRITUAL
This is often the most forgotten pillar.
It focuses on connections that you have with others, either religious or social.
Coping strategies include:
- Being connected with friends and family
- Becoming part of a community or club, whether at home or work
- Prayer and being part of a religious group

“Humans are social beings, and we are happier, and better, when connected to others.”
Paul bloom, psychologist
