We recently caught up with tech companies who showcased their new products and services in the Innovation Zone at EIBTM 2014 after entering into the Technology Watch Awards. Here, we share their advice for other young start-up companies, who might be thinking of entering industry awards, including the Technology and Innovation Watch Awards 2015.

“Make sure to communicate clearly the benefits of your solution and your company’s vision when filling in the application.  Don’t forget to mention the value you can bring to the Innovation Zone should you be selected.

“If you’re chosen, explain how you will make the Innovation Zone a part of ibtm world attendees will remember. Bring materials that are more than just promotional pamphlets but have an educational value too.”

“Describe how you are solving a real world problem, what are the benefits to the end user (not the features of your product); why would a customer use your product. I would network more and work the show floor more.”

“Take your time! Give yourself some time to write the entry, sleep on it, change it again and again as there is nothing wrong with refinement. The judges are looking at everything and a well-worded and structured entry will go a very long way.

“Secondly, make it different! Come to ibtm world with something that is a game changer and is new to the industry. Also, be prepared with your entry, your product/service as well to develop from the ibtm world experience. The show in Barcelona is full of experienced professionals who are happy to share ideas and thoughts with you.

“Lastly, be passionate!. Be passionate with your entry and during your whole experience and let it show. Success is drawn to this…mark my words.”

“Come prepared and invest big to match the scale and output of the event.  Investment is not solely in financial terms.  It is also in mindset, team, and presence… ibtm world is THE opportunity to “touch” many relevant people and to elevate a new, young, brand. I believe we did well during our attendance – we came back home exhausted but satisfied.  The only thing I would do differently is to double our efforts then.  As said earlier, we were young and naive… now we know!”
