Senthil has over 20 years’ experience in the meetings, association and leisure industry and is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). He has held a wide spectrum of positions in the meetings industry, such as CEO of the Convention Bureau of Sri Lanka and Vice President of Kuoni. This year, Senthil was named Global Business Events Strategist of the Year 2019 by PCMA.
We sat down with Senthil to ask him some questions about the events industry and his personal motivations and experiences.
What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
Engaging with professionals from different parts of the world. And also, working with my dynamic team at ICCA.
What fascinates you about your line of work?
The evolution of the events industry is something that always fascinates me; it changes so rapidly. Innovation and creativity are a way of life here.
Have you ever faced a particularly big challenge in your professional life? If so, what did you learn?
Yes, I learned that nothing is impossible if you stay positive.
Wellbeing is a huge topic in the events industry right now. What do you do to keep yourself healthy, both mentally and physically?
I ensure my mind is kept healthy by learning about new aspects every day. This stimulates my brain. I also ensure I walk at least 5kms a day.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would it be called?
I would call it “The Pathway I Traversed”.
Who is your inspiration as a leader?
The leader I draw inspiration from is the late Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam. He is a true self-esteemed leader.
What is the most important skill that all leaders should have?
All leaders should be able to take responsibility for failure and also make sure they attribute successes to the achiever.

My family.
How did you get into the events industry?
It was always my passion from my school days.
Favourite thing about events?
There’s always something new happening at events and it’s the perfect place to learn how to implement all your imaginative thinking.
What’s on your desk?
My desk is usually very clean. I normally only have my laptop, my mobile phone, and a notebook on it.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t show stress in your face.
